So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh at that place. (Genesis 2:21 NASB)
There was one other being (in my recollection) in the Bible who had it’s side open. Jesus Christ.
but one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately there came out blood and water (John 19:34 NASB)
God fashioned Eve, the first woman, the first and only wife for Adam. It was out of God’s goodness and grace Eve was fashioned. And then God closed up the womb.
When Jesus was pierced, blood and water flowed out. That was a fulfillment of the New Covenant prophesied by the great prophet Ezekiel.
Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. (Ezekiel 36:25 NASB)
The water and blood that flowed out is the new baptism and repentance which we are under by the grace of Him who made the New Covenant with us.
Also, Christ was only pierced during His crucifixion. His death is the beginning of His departure. The beginning of His glorification and ascension into heaven. The beginning of the Holy Spirit movement. The beginning of the Church. The beginning of His true bride.
One day, New Jerusalem will come down, adorned as the Lamb’s bride. (Revelation 21:2)
It was grace and love for us that opened both sides. And it was for the husband to be with His lover and bride.
Brothers and sisters, just as Eve was fashioned for Adam, we, the body of Christ, the Bride of the Lamb were meant to be with Christ forever and ever. To Him be the glory. Amen and Amen.
